Thursday June 24th

The comic:

Wow.

Oh wait, I just remembered last summer (or was it the summer before?) when the government offered coupons for the converter box so you could continue to get your network channels in peace.

Before that, I was in awe that they bothered with the converter box.

Plugger question - why does his TV still work but his car is falling apart? TVs are harder to fix and harder to understand. Though maybe they were simpler back then, what do I know about Philcos?

And despite being a disrespectful teenager (I'm 21) I do appreciate a B&W movie or TV show. Andy Griffith in black and white means Barney is still there - in color, he's gone. And I saw a colored version of Mughal-e-Azam that was hideously colored. The director died and he wanted it colored and you can see the scenes he colored (the colors look natural) vs the ones attacked with highlighters.

Futurama's on! And it's new!!!

ETA: I know how to hook up the DVD player, the Wii, and my computer (provided the TV has a VGA port) and a bit about the cable (in the dorm, the cord goes on the wall, and then on my TV! Magic! That does not mean I am a TV expert, just like the fact that I can type without looking and use the internet easily does not mean I am a computer expert. (Though with our old one, I was able to add extra RAM so I could update the Sims (the original, spluh!) - I could take apart the computer casing and do that. But that's about it.)

Saturday June 19th

The comic:

Ha ha, people age! Isn't it funny!

And why is he confused? He had to know what movie/sitcom he was watching, right?

And why doesn't he just watch the classics and ignore the fact that actors choose different roles as they age?

Because then he'd have nothing to whine about.

I'm more shocked by my relatives aging, especially my cousins who are kids who I don't see that often. "What do you mean she's graduating from high school?!"

Pluggers don't like change. I get it. So why seek it out? I don't see anyone forcing him to watch it! And what actor is he talking about? Six shooters? An actor who did that is probably dead now! And if he's Clint Eastwood, I doubt he's done a movie with a minivan.

This would work better if he was reading about the new movie online or in the paper - or his grandchild was telling him about it - "Hey, your favorite star from when you were a kid is in this movie... as the grandfather."

Or I could be charitable and say he's watching a commercial for some "wacky" summer movie, but no, I've seen Pluggers put themselves in situations just so they can whine, so no charity!

Thursday March 18th

The comic:

You know you can change the channel, right?

I cared this year because of Colbert and the American ice dancing team dancing to Bollywood. I did not have to sit through NBC's coverage to find that.

Anyways, Pluggers are boring, like boring things, and like to get published about boring things. (I hear fishing is less boring if you're drunk and/or have dynamite.) Also, Ohio. Paul misses ice fishing, but it's too expensive to drive up to Michigan or Minnesota or Wisconsin. Poor Paul.

Also - timely! And it's a "classic".

Wait - it can't be a classic for true Olympic (winter or summer) fans - they know when ice fishing was added, so seeing this year after year (I guess they save puns for the summer game) must make them angry. For about .00001 seconds before they move on. I'm the only one thinking about this who doesn't get paid. Sad sad sad.

Good night.

Oh, I watched some of the Olympics and freaked out when the skiers did those jumps, and went upside down, I had the TV on, I poked my head in to bother my mom and then I was like "WTF was that what did they just do?"

Also, the final hockey game. I love frequenting places with so many Canadians - they were so happy! And the descriptions - the Torontoians finally know how the Vancouverites felt! Yeah, it wasn't a good fiscal idea, but it seemed like such fun. And not Plugger like.

(Hey wait, Colbert never tried for ice fishing... hmm...)

Friday February 26th

The comic:

She doesn't seem to care.

The caption is odd. "One solution"? No, we don't offer choices - this is the only solution, this is the Plugger way. Also - big TV, great. But I think new glasses would be a better investment because we don't spend all our time watching TV, not even Pluggers. They drive, for instance.

Also, they're totally rotting out their eyes!

Friday October 16th

The comic:

What's the vintage? Last month? I bet it came from a box.

Also, too much caption. Show her snoring, him with the remote after "get lucky..."

Pluggers don't have more than one TV. Or more than one hooked up to cable.

Also, they drug their wives so they can watch... whatever the hell Pluggers watch. Desperate Housewives? Reruns of Full House? Porn?

Friday July 17th

The comic:

I thought he'd call her his remote control. This is better, somehow. At least she's not an inanimate object. (Unlike him.)

Tuesday May 5th

The comic:

They can't be very good glasses - look how close she is to the TV!

I think Pluggers will be getting HDTVs very soon, if they want to watch their soaps. But there's always DVDs... or Betamax...

Friday July 25th

The comic:

Oh man, there is so much here.

The TV for one - what are those boxes under the screen? We got a new tv this year, and our old one was from the '80s. It didn't have anything like that. And neither does the other old one we still have.

The TV guide. I used to read the newspaper's TV guide, before I discovered zap2it.com. And I've only read the official TV Guide magazine while in a doctor's office.

Not to mention, we got digital cable for our new TV (Hey, we can turn it off with a remote! The future rocks!) and can now access a guide on the TV itself. The regular cable had the same thing, only it rarely worked.

Though I guess a Plugger wouldn't necessarily have cable or an internet connection. Or even a computer.

But why pay for a TV guide for your ten channels, max? (We had 7.)

Though a Plugger would read the paper, so it could be theirs.

Onto the meat of the comic - I'm surprised he even has glasses in the first place. They're not cheap, you know. But you kinda need 'em. Especially if you drive.

I'm lucky, I think, because I'd only need the magnifying glass. No bifocals for me! (Yet.) I happen to love my glasses, or at least being able to see clearly. When they're off & and I try to concentrate on something far away, it hurts.

No wonder Pluggers are crazy. He's probably had the same prescription since the Ford administration. "Why is the world getting so blurry?"

And large print sucks, outside of children's picture books.

Calling the TV a tube isn't surprising, as I'm sure his TV still uses the big one. (God, I know nothing about TVs, except the new ones have flat backs and the older ones don't.)

One more thing - why is he looking to see what's on tonight? It's called planning ahead. Hey, I like to watch TV. I get a weekly guide telling me what is on every night. But I won't look ahead, that would be cheating. (That is one thing I miss about the paper's tv guide - seeing everything in weekly form, not just 3 hour chunks. Of course, you can always click on the channel to see what's up for the week or the show to see what other times it airs.)

I leave you on a high note. This song rules, though I have no idea what it's about. I discovered it by accident, and every time I listen to it, it makes me happy.

Wednesday July 23rd

The comic:

Pluggers are fat.

And like to watch TV.

We now return to your regularly scheduled programming.

On a side note, this is the one time I'm glad they changed the gender. Hello, boobies?

ETA: If the comic was as old as its subject, I'd say this classic is from the '50s, when TV dinners were brand new and we'd have flying cars in 2008.

Tuesday June 24th

The comic:

RhinoMan has a TV! You go RhinoMan!

Okay, what's on the tv?

A VCR, DVD player, cable/satellite box, maybe an adapter for the DVD player. (Our old living room TV looked similar, as in it was big enough to sit on the floor and support all those things and a nice picture frame. We needed the adapter for the DVD player because our TV was kind of from the '80s.)

And some video and dvd cases.

That makes sense.

But is that a phone? I've never seen a phone by a TV or in an entertainment center, except maybe a cell phone set down next to one or on a shelf.

And is that another TV with the news on?

That should be saved for a picture-in-picture comic.

Also, aren't Pluggers supposed to be handy? Wouldn't they relish building an entertainment center?

ETA: Eek, Pluggerville is big enough to have its own version of American Idol! Or they're so cut off from society that they can't see any other country's version. Either way, weird.

Friday June 6th

The comic:

Okay. Pluggers like old movies.

And probably rave on about how horrible today's movies are.

I think it's great to have a set of movies you love - one director's work, one actor's work (Johnny Depp can do no wrong!), a genre, a time period - but you've got to be open minded.

I forget which movie message board I saw this at, but it said Bollywood is better than Hollywood. More emotion and what not. Some people disagreed, and one mentioned The Shawshank Redemption as a very moving movie (with no dancing, sadly).

I've never seen a Bollywood movie, but I love the music. I'm eagerly awaiting Dil Se... from Amazon. I can't wait.

Maybe Bollywood movies will become my favorite movies, the best ones, according to me. But does this mean I'll abandon American cinema? Of course not. Imagine what I'd miss.

I used to say I only listened to music older than me. Except for this one! And that one! etc. I am mostly listening to Bollywood music now, but I still listen to non-Bollywood songs - like Kollywood! No, if my sister likes something, I'll check it out. What harm does it do?

Knowing Pluggers, they would never do this when it comes to movies.

While non-Plugger film buffs will give newer ones a chance.

Wednesday, April 16th

The comic:

Why rerun this?

It is the funniest Pluggers ever, though it's completely unintentional.

The only humor they tried for is lame and stupid - "Men like to change channels! They never stop!"

So who was watching Baywatch?

I hope she thinks he's asleep and he's dead and she ignores him until the stench gets too strong.

Or she poisoned him because he was a stereotype, never watching any channel for more than a second, the bastard, and too cheap to get her her own tv and too controlling to let her watch TV when he wasn't.

Totally awesome Bollywood song -- Yeh Ladka Hai Allah

Tuesday the 1st

The comic:

You're a Plugger if you like old movies.

Kidding!

You're a Plugger if you're old and act like a grumpy old fert.

Saturday the 1st

The comic:

Ha! She's from Travelers Rest, and she can't stay awake for more than an hour while watching tv!

Ha ha ha?

This isn't funny.

If you really can't stay awake for a movie (I saw There Will Be Blood - awesome! Daniel Day-Lewis will never be a Plugger! - a couple weeks ago, and it was long, but I didn't feel tired at all.), get thee to a doctor!

Or watch them earlier in the day, sheesh.

But just not funny, kinda sad really. I have fallen asleep while watching something interesting, just did it this afternoon. (Mom called and woke me up and I thought the 15 minute nap was actually the whole damn day, I MISSED MY CLASSES! OH NOES!!!! She laughed at me and I fell back asleep.)

But I was laying on a bed. (Or couch, when I'm at home.)

I have no sympathy - I hope you have crazy late fees!

Few more things - the male Plugger is just... too big. Seriously.

And rewind? Of course Pluggers still use VHS. And only VHS.

Song of the moment - Aankhen Khuli.

Saturday the 16th

The comic:

Okay. Commercial time.

A Psych marathon would rule. Or an Arrested Development one!

Anyways, I rarely keep still during an hour long show(or I wouldn't be doing this), so I'm not a Plugger.

Yay!

But yeah, lazy.

And they have self-winding watches, whatever those are.

I used to wear an Eeyore watch, but I fiddled with it too much and the clasp thing broke. Now my cell phone is my watch.

Back to Pluggers, before Psych, oops.

This guy's dead, unless it's true that Pluggers can't even be bothered to move their arms while watching TV.

Mummies!

Saturday the 2nd

The comic:

Um.

Wow.

Pluggers don't believe in making reservations and/or honoring the ones they've already made.

Or...

A plugger cares more about their energy level than going to a party? Or out to dinner with their friends or family?

I've never known *getting dressed* to be a big buzzkill. Even getting dressed up!

I wasn't wiped out by dressing up for graduation, and I was in some serious pain.

But also - bathed? That could apply to little kids, or hey - what if they have to be bathed by their human owners? Though that normally wipes me out, Wickett is still full of beans.

Now, this week, I was wiped out from running around and didn't feel that great, so I decided not to go see a movie on campus. I hadn't told anyone I was going, so I am better than this couple.

Which is always good.

And if you know that something as simple as getting dressed is going to wipe you out, maybe you shouldn't make plans that require such strenuous activity!

Wednesday the 21st

The comic:

Sent in by a CC poster.

A Plugger doesn't realize that he can put the TV on the weather channel or a news show...

And computers? What are those?

At least this wasn't the 'blinking 12:00' thing.

Canadians.

November 9th

Finally!

2 weeks from now will be the day after Thanksgiving, also known as the start of the Christmas season.

Except... you'd think it was December 9th, by the commercials on TV and the Christmas tree (undecorated) in the school bookstore, along with the rack of Xmas cds.

Gag me.

Speaking of gag-me, today's comic:

Josh already turned this into a meth binge - which applies to every Pluggers - but I still get to try.

I'm going with my general impression of every cheap non-chain motel - YOU'RE GONNA DIE!

Good for Pluggers, bad for me.

Do motels actually brag about this anymore?

The sign should also say that all rooms are air-conditioned, fancy!

A comic about marriage...

with no loathing involved!

How sweet.

Really.

Take a look at today's.

Finally! The gender matches!

Though the species don't, which is just creeping me out more and more because dogs kill chickens!

And chickens lay eggs, and dogs don't, so this couple ain't procreatin', which means that gay marriage is okay in Pluggerville, because that's one of the asinine arguments against gay marriage. (No kids can come of this union.)

He probably snores, and his eyes are probably shut as well as not changing the channel.

So the husband and wife don't hate each other, but we still have a stereotype - guys won't stick to one channel.

In my house, it is kind of true - Wickett, the littlest dog, is very bold, and will sit on or near your face or chest, often near or on the remote when he sits on Mom. He's changed the channel before.

I fell asleep yesterday while Mom and Beck were watching Judge Judy, and the judge said the mother was an unfit mother and I said, "She beats her kid." That was never mentioned in the show, and I don't know why I said it. If I fall asleep around others and a TV, I say odd things, and they rub it in.
