The comic:

Of course it's apple pie! They're Americans, after all.

The comic:

Pluggers are stereotypical single women?

Wednesday, April 29, 2009

Wednesday April 29th

The comic:

Wow. They got on the unfunny stimulus package jokes pretty fast.

You notice he's not talking about the rest of the coupons? That would make more sense. This is one coupon, for one dinner. (For however many people, it's still ONE DAMN DINNER.)

Not to mention their deathwish, which is what popped in my head when I saw the top half. I like junk food, I've been to buffets before, but anything with the word "greasy" in its title is an automatic red flag to me. Mostly for safety reasons, plus a bit of taste thrown in. Not that I'm too good for a greasy spoon, I mean if your food is so greasy that you use that as your selling point, well... urgh.

Saturday February 7th

The comic:

This drawing looks so familiar, because I remember puzzling over the mirror, or perhaps that's just because I've seen mirrors like that in real life.

What reason does a Plugger have to wear a tie? Oh, right, deaths and marriages.

It is odd that the Plugger in question has everything else fitting, well, "right" as he sees it, except that tie. Who wears ties with jeans again?

The proportions of the belly are all wrong. Trust me, I'm fat. I know, I'm a fat woman, so it goes in different places, but I'm also a people watcher. And I ain't never seen a real person look like that. Male or female. Even in that stock footage of the fat people's bodies without faces they run on the news every time there's time some story about obesity.

So what I don't know about cars, well, multiply that, because this is men's clothing. (Though I've often thought it would be cool to wear a tie, though only if you're flat-chested.) Father wore uniform most of the time he was there, uniform had no tie.

But this does not seem plausible to me. Having trouble finding good pants because of your size, that does. But those are so expensive and so out of the way (especially for Pluggerville and someone used to sweats) that bitching about the tie sounds like somebody with their priorities out of whack, or at least somebody who only notices the latest problem. (I was trying to think of better examples, something about a limo and the price of ... something, but I am so tired.)

Then again, there's a whole 'nother side. "ties these days" and the tie over informal clothes - somebody who's been retired for a few years is going back into the work force and needed a new tie, since their old ones had just gone back out of fashion.

Tuesday January 27th

The comic:

You think I can pretend that the David Jones is really David Bowie, and he requested RhinoMan in an attempt to reach out to me?

No, my meds are not expired! Stop looking at me like that! I haven't cracked, it's only the third week of school!

Onto the comic itself. So RhinoMan can afford food and a TV and pillows and a lumpy chair/loveseat thing. But this is a classic, and I'd remember a prosperous, happy RhinoMan, so this is way before the economy went in the pooper. Poor RhinoMan.

I am impressed by his flexibility, actually, though I curse Brookins' drawing skills, yet again. Is the TV set up in front of the chair, at an angle, or at the foot? If it's at the foot, he always sits like the that, and ow, my back.

And, ick, girly time, but all that grease on clothing! Not to mention that it should be hot. Unless he went dumpster diving.

It's not truly balanced, or the beer can would be on his forehead. For shame, David Bowie. Go back to your gorgeous goddess of a wife Iman and be beautifully in love together. It didn't work!

Chuck them at him! Do it!

Saturday September 27th

The comic:

I hate chocolate ice cream.

Oh. I think I got it. Neopolitan is too fancy a word for these simple folk.

Pluggers like to eat. Pluggers in Tennessee like ice cream. Big surprise, though I most often crave ice cold water. But I ain't from Madison.

So tired, I can't think of anything about this because it's just stupid. And this week has been killer - 4 tests (though one classmate had like 5 or 6), and three of them were the first test in that class. I got my grade for my Tuesday test. I got a C. Hey, at least I passed, right?

And now my English teacher is proposing chucking everything on the syllabus for Infinite Jest and I signed up for this 5-week Saturday course that starts tomorrow (er, today) at 9am and damn I've been tired since 4pm! (If I do it and pass the test, I get extra credit in anthropology.) I'll just see how I feel in the morning - I know the difference between "but I don't wanna get up" tired and "holy hell my book makes a nice pillow oh wait I'm in the front row" tired.

So Monday night I was a bundle of nerves, Thursday night I went to the fair and saw Rick Springfield and refused to ride the Ring of Fire, and Friday night all that is catching up with me.
And all this week, I messed up one of my medications and the reaction came quickly and will leave slowly, with lots of pain along the way.

But at least I'm not a Plugger!

ETA: I did go to the class. I will be a Lay Health Adviser (Advisor? Whatever.) and learn about infant mortality.

I'll never understand my own body. I decided to go to sleep around 2:45. It took a long time to fall asleep, but when 8am beeped into my mind, I felt refreshed. Unfortunately, I didn't have anything to do between the time I woke up and 8:45. So I laid down and didn't set any alarms. Luckily, I woke up at 8:55. While I was late, I wasn't too late, nothing had started and nobody was mad. In fact, the speaker kept losing her train of thought or the spot she was reading and kept saying, "It's Saturday morning."

I'm sure you all care so much.

Thursday September 25th

The comic:

Pluggers are fat.

Whatever.

But Rhinoman has money to eat! Not at anywhere fancy, but still!

Unfortunately, he can't afford better pants.

Poor RhinoMan.

Monday September 15th

The comic:

So their waist shows their years, making it a waist of time. Ha.

But it's also a waste of time to try to lose that waist. (At least quickly.)

Let's talk about the wife - Pluggers live like all those stupid sitcoms with a hot wife and a fat guy. (The Honeymooners was the first, but it didn't suck, or so I've heard.)

Pluggers think like this all the time - if I can't have instant results, why bother? CSI is on.

Tuesday August 12th

The comic:

Oh, the women! They love the ice cream so much, am I right guys?

Thursday, August 7, 2008

Thursday August 7th

The comic:

I thought this would have something to do with the price of snacks at the movies. No, they're just gluttons.

And non-Pluggers find pots of leprechaun gold on a regular basis? I'm not sure what they're saying here.

It looks like he's not at the bottom of the container, so he's not at the end.

Maybe August is making me too stupid for Pluggers.

Tuesday, July 22, 2008

Wednesday July 23rd

The comic:

Pluggers are fat.

And like to watch TV.

We now return to your regularly scheduled programming.

On a side note, this is the one time I'm glad they changed the gender. Hello, boobies?

ETA: If the comic was as old as its subject, I'd say this classic is from the '50s, when TV dinners were brand new and we'd have flying cars in 2008.

Thursday, July 17, 2008

Thursday July 17th

The comic:

I do not like the look on that Plugger's face.

Pluggers don't have gardens - it takes time and energy to get one to that state.

I like to think that he's in someone else's garden - legally or not. Illegally would be better.

Here comes Mr. McGregor!

Monday, July 7, 2008

Monday July 7th

The comic:

Pluggers aren't vegetarians. Big whoop.

I like a good cheeseburger with swiss cheese.

This could be worse, it could be the chicken lady eating fried chicken.

How can Pluggers be at the top of the food chain when they don't try to do anything new?

And it's still wrong that it's an animal "at the top of the food chain". How weird.

I'm not quite sure what the point of this is, besides that Pluggers like to eat and good food is the only ray of sunshine in their miserable lives.

ETA: Josh's take on this involved Reed Hoover (aka somebody paid to send in ideas) and other Pluggers love their meat so much they'll "pretend to believe in evolution." Maybe. I'm not sure. I'm pretty sure they believe the struggle to the top of the food chain involved the few minutes before God made one magical animal that can give us bacon, ham, and pork chops.

Thursday May 29th

The comic:

OH COME ON!

Pluggers are typical Americans. They struggle with their weight. You mean to tell me they never got the supersize meal back when McDonald's offered it?

They supersized their meals and now they wear suspender...

Wait.

Is this just saying that when Pluggers eat large meals, they have to adjust their clothes because they gained weight?

Obvious statement alert at twelve o'clock!

Even my man RhinoMan can't save this. He looks scary.

Thursday May 22nd

The comic:

Josh covered this. On the 22nd. Oh the advantages of posting about comics in a timely manner.

But what he said is wrong, though true. Yes, Pluggers are disgusting. Thinking of them and marriage and cheating is squicky, but Pluggers have sex with other Pluggers. They leave the rest of us out of it. Thank God.

This comic can mean two things for non-Pluggers. Either we never cheat on our diets, or we cheat on our spouses, taxes, or in games. Pluggers don't do any of the latter, they're better than us. But they hate "elitists".

By the way, Pluggers, they do make pizzas that are diet-friendly.

Wait, I take back what I said about Pluggers only cheating on diets.

It says usually. That implies there are other cheating instances in their lives. Of course, it says "caught by his wife", which can apply to cheating on Monopoly because his grandkid owns Broadway, rather than just adultery.

Friday May 2nd

The comic:

We've seen Pluggers as birds.

We've seen pissed off Pluggers as well, in a foul mood, but that's not the point.

I have a category devoted to the chicken looking Plugger.

This is so wrong.

I'm just glad we don't get to see them today.

ETA: Of course, Josh covered this one. And he's funnier. And touched on the product placement, which I ignored!

Monday the 24th

The comic:

It's so "classic" it's on this blog.

Somewhere.

What makes it a classic? It's not very good or unique. (Pluggers eat! Male Pluggers refuse to clean without prompting! Yuk yuk yuk!)

No ideas? I don't believe that.

I hope he gets food poisoning. (Not because he's taking his time cleaning the fridge, but that he's eating with the door open, not cleaning. I assume cleaning involves a cleaning liquid and scrubbing, not just testing for freshness.)

Sunday the 16th

The comic:

Non-Plugger dogs do, in fact, get full.

We have referred to our dogs as vacuum cleaners, but they're not the default ones. If they're in, and some nonpoisonous food has fallen, we do call them. (I tried to get Dixie to clean some ketchup off the floor, and she started rolling on it. Eau de catsup!)

But this drawing is disturbing.

For one, that Plugger has Chips and donuts.

He's also holding the chips in such a way that this was not an accidental spill, and it's an easy one to stop after a couple of fallen chips.

Chips aren't good for dogs.

It's one thing to have the dogs picking up fallen food and calling them a vacuum. It's another to say they don't get full.

The caption - and the slop illustrating it - make me think he doesn't have a real vacuum and expects his dog to eat everything, including his own shedded hair. (Wickett does this.)

Dogs should volunteer to vacuum, they should never be forced. (I didn't force Dixie, I showed her the ketchup and let her do what she wanted.) If they don't do it, you do it!

Also, the word balloons scare me. He sounds stoned or stupid or already drunk.

I don't like this one at all.

Monday the 3rd

The comic:

Two days of my RhinoMan? Brookins must know I'm on Spring Break, and he's giving me a break, because I can't be mean to the Rhino.

And he's eating again. Good for him!

As for the non-Rhino aspects - god, a classic? From Florida?

::stereotype time::

Richard Glass (who has been "published" before, I'm sure) is an old, grumpy man who lives near a basketball court or spends time in a park that has one. And he watches the young punks play basketball all the time. He's bitter because he's old and/or he's a racist fuck, because he thinks that only black guys play basketball.

Anyways, I don't do *my* dunking on a basketball court, because we have one in our driveway. And it was put up by my father, who is not racist, according to him, but we know our friends - especially the guys! - do not make him happy. (About my half-sister's S.O. - "He's Korean, but nice.")

Let's step away from the stereotypes for a moment and go back into my ignorance.

I do not drink coffee, and while my mom and sis like Starbucks, they like the fancy coffees. Whatevs.

Do people still dunk donuts into their coffee? I've only seen it in comics - and one was an Archie story where the basketball coach was in a wheelchair, and she showed Reggie how she dunked.

But still - my dad's a cop! I've never seen this.

Song of the moment
