The Return of the Blog

I don't feel like doing homework, but I want to do something.

I was going to return a month ago, but hey. As to why I stopped, I don't remember but I assume it was because my chronic pain was incredibly nasty this summer and fall and also, no one reads this until I stop posting.

Enjoy.

Blogging Against Disablism Day 2010

Because of various issues related to my disability, I cannot sit down and write a post about Blogging Against Disablism Day or something in general, abstract. I cannot think properly due to pain and the side effects of medication.

So I'm throwing up a link to the site, which includes a round-up of various posts dealing with disabilities/chronic illnesses and how much society just SUCKS when dealing with them.

Blogging Against Disablism Day 2010

From my personal blog, I have three posts dealing with disability and disablism.

I've talked about my health since the beginning (it's why I started - to record my horrific experiences in a psych ward in 2006), but the first addressing disability and activism and such was in November of last year with "Spoon Theory and Me (It's all about me)".

Since then, I have had many posts mentioning my health and whatnot, but recently, I did two separate posts dealing with disabilist attitudes and health.

"Medication for Bipolar Disorder and TV Shows"

"Pajama Jeans and ableism"

Off to watch Dexter.

Saturday, April 24, 2010

Yeah.

So.

My health has been especially heinous since the last time I posted.

And judging by tonight, it's not getting better any time soon.

Normally, mocking Pluggers would be a welcome distraction, but it's just not working for me right now.

It's not like I'm not online and I haven't shut myself off like I've done before - I still comment at some sites, still post at my favorite message board, hey, I started tweeting. Still do facebook.

I just... can't.

Well, in two weeks' time, I'll be at home and this horrible semester will be behind me (and the mountains of paperwork for filing for disability will be ahead of me... oy) and who knows.

Also, it's hard to mock Pluggers the few times they're not being smug a-holes. Because what's so funny about poor health or poverty? I guess I could just say "Ha ha, he's so poor he's doing X, isn't that what America wants to see in its comics? It's so funny! Why aren't you laughing?" It's like Funky Winkerbean some days, and the smirks come on the smug days. "Pluggers don't know what this new thing is, and they don't care" and "Pluggers are good people (non-Pluggers are not)".

So.

No promises.

Thursday April 1st

I've been doing this 3 years as of today.

I'm taking today off.

Tuesday November 24th

No, I'm not better yet, but I had a procedure today and I'm just killing time til I stop being kind of lazy and put a movie on. It wasn't kidney stones, just my chronic pain condition acting up. It still hurts to walk more than a few feet, but hey, I'm starting new medication!

But you don't care about me, you care about Pluggers. You're weird.

The comic:

Pluggers plan things out and then leave the things for the plans at home.

They forget things.

They are so unique.

I mean, I never forget things. No, not me. (Even before the drugs today, I couldn't remember the name of the procedure and I still don't.)

Monday, November 9, 2009

Try to contain your disappointment, people.

I'm a sick person, that's well established, and everything is usually under control.

Not right now.

A kidney stone is attacking me, I feel like, in addition to the usual knives, I'm being ripped apart if I do something outrageous like get off my bed.

Something like that requires some pain medication. That pain medication makes me sleepy and foggy.

Also, I'm in pain.

So fuck Pluggers til I feel better/get bored.

Monday November 2nd

The comic:

Glory be! I know ya'll were tense, lord knows I was. (Especially since on the day the first bit of horrifying news was published, the issue had already been resolved - aw, comics try to stay current! They're so cute! Except Mallard Fillmore - that delay just ugh.)

Anyways, wouldn't most Pluggers drive up to the post office dropbox?

Wednesday October 14th

The comic:

Geez, it's not the end of the world. E-mail addresses are free, and most towns have libraries with these things called computers... oh just text your grandkid and ask them to do it.

The inconvenience? I'm going to hurt myself rolling my eyes.

Also, what kind of comic syndicate doesn't have a street address? And if the post office in my zip code changed and I depended on a PO Box, I'd go to the next one and buy another one.

Sadly, the Plugger is overreacting. This does not spell the end of the "comic." So you still have me. Whoo.

And I'm too much of a Southern, gentile lady to mention it, but @aol.com? Hahahhahaha

Saturday, July 4, 2009

I'm sorry.

I believe I looked at the Pluggers from the 17th and just said "fuck it".

At the time, I'd been spending less and less time online and more time asleep and reading. Also, I think I was getting a bit depressed, as I watched less and less Bollywood movies.

Writing about Pluggers is emotionally and creatively draining.

Also, that guy runs classics like every other week.

Happy fourth!

Unlike other times when I took off, this time I don't think I'll be covering the days I missed.* Sorry.

ETA: *This is subject to change, of course.

And this has NOTHING to do with watching two good Bollywood movies last night and seeing one in a MOVIE THEATER for the first time since February. Or maybe everything. Man, Omkara is awesome.

Some boastful nonsense

I am going to start contributing at the The Daily Comics Review, because the guy needs help. I keep telling him to narrow his focus, but hey, now I get to attack other comics.

And maybe other people will see it.

So, you few people who read this blog, read his! Comment!

Once I post there, I will put the link up to that post.

I had to talk about Pluggers first, because well, this is mine.

It's like 3:40. I slept late and since I'm home I don't have the only furniture in the house to myself, blah blah blah.

And here it is! I managed to plug the blog only twice. I think I'll go back and add it to the end. Bye!

Thanksgiving

Not that I post at consistent times normally, but I don't know what internet access will be like between now and Sunday night.

I've been told they have internet access in the lobby area, but these are cabins, and since it's a "family" holiday, while I'm not expected to spend 24/7 with my cousins (and not my favorites), it might be bad form to set up camp in the only place with Wi-Fi.

In Arkansas?

Sure, why not attack an entire state?

Have a great Thanksgiving, all five of you readers with names and the unknown anonymous quantity.

I have a follower!

I feel special.

You should follow this blog, you won't regret it.

Plus, if I get stressed out by school and start posting sporadically, you'll know when I start again.

I mean, do you really want to risk missing such valuable insights as "Pluggers are stupid"? I think not.

So follow this blog today!

Saturday, April 26, 2008

Annoucement:

I'm not going to cover Sundays anymore.

They're only available at a couple sites, and the last time (almost a month ago!), it was hard to get it.

So I'm abandoning the official site and will be using the Houston Chronicle's excellent comic site from now on.

I stopped with April 1st's comic because that was a the whole year.

Pluggers is a depressing, hateful comic. And this blog isn't even good for procrastination, because they're sooooooo depressing, and not doing homework and looming deadlines make me cry, and I hate Pluggers.

I'm going to give it another chance, but I will not skip any days. I'm starting with the 2nd!

I'm not going to have any set plan with the comics, I'll just say what comes to mind and see what happens.

ETA: Because of the Chron's awesomesaucesomeness WRT its archives, no more Plugger images sullying my blog!

ETA2: Because I work better when I can see the stupid cartoon, I will continue to sully my blog with their visages.

Poll results are in!

The official Pluggers site has a small archive. In my older posts, the links go nowhere. Should I change the links to the Houston Chronicle so they do?

18 people voted.

9 voted for me to go back and change my links and/or use the Chron.

9 voted no, because I put the pictures up with the link, so even if the link dies, the picture's still there.

I'm not going to run the poll again to get a majority vote.

I'm also not going to change the links in my old posts. And I may or may not use the Chron from now on. No one cares, especially me.

Plugger Sighting!

Hi and Lois (of Hi & Lois fame) are Pluggers!

Their children are too ashamed to comment at the moment.

Friday, February 8, 2008

Wow, it's February.

I have a rough draft due Monday at 9:10am, and I have the outline and questioned answered from the workshop today. (Everything important I'd already covered in my outline - which sucks, but it's mine and I know what I'm doing.)

But no, I'm going to read for thirty minutes, and watch the new episode of Psych. (Las Vegas and Psych are on at the same time.)

Then sleep.

I am wiped out.

Last week didn't go as well as I thought it would, despite the auspicious start. (Can't go wrong with RhinoMan!)

Tuesday, we had some ferocious wind and 2 trees got knocked over on campus and my dorm lost power, except for the generator, so everything in the surge protector (my fridge and clock) still worked, and the lights flickered.

The temperature dropped after that. Thursday, I started coughing in my last class, and ended the day exhausted. I ended up turning in my English paper as I'd written it Monday night Friday morning, then dragging myself to the campus clinic.

They didn't have their lab... people or things, but hey, I had a real fever! (My normal is 97 and change, and it was 100 and change. ::nods::)

And the flu. The Tamiflu worked, I was functioning on Monday.

I threw up 3 times that day, and nobody cleaned it up or took care of me. :( (Becky didn't want me home, I'd get everyone sick, wah wah.)

Saturday was a sleepy non-barfing blur, broken up by my mom bringing goodies. These throat lozenges worked wonders, I could talk like that! Wow! Super Bowl Sunday, I felt a bit better, but still dragged around, which did not help when I did my laundry.

This week? Not so bad. But not perfect.

Monday and Tuesday were unbelievably hot. At least inside the classrooms. And dorms. And... everything with walls. The wind was nice, at least. Monday morning, I was going to wear tennis shoes and long pants, but no, too hot. Flipflops and shorts and a tank top. And no jacket. Somebody made a catty comment along the lines of "it's not that hot," but hey, my last class was a sauna.

And I wasn't only the one who thought so - I turned off my fan and oh no, why'd you do that? Bit of fun.

Monday afternoon, the fire alarm went off. Tuesday, the campus shut down. I went to a doctor appointment. It rained. We left. It rained and our stomachs beat the sirens and thunder in noise. We ate a terrible place, Danver's, but we ate inside the place, no moving vehicles. We went to Walgreen's. We drove up to the dorm from the East, and there were lights on.

Me: We have power!

We turned into the visitor lot (too cheap/lazy to get a parking tag and the general lots are too far away) and saw the other light. The blinking light. And heard the alarm. And saw the people.

Me: Keep driving!

The fire alarm went off. So everyone had to leave the building, so they wouldn't be consumed in an inferno.

But because the university didn't want to lose them to Oz U (I had yet to leave the vehicle - it was dry), everyone was moved to another building.

The cops showed up. The firetrucks showed up.

It took a lot longer than usual for people to be allowed back in the building. I waited it out in the car.

It was an odd night. I kept my window open, I heard the sirens, but none were directly overhead. We were told to go to the basement, or first 3 floor hallways. However, it was a suggestion, so I merely stuck my head out before returning to the window.

I watched the Daily Show and Colbert Report and went to sleep. No problems, except for a few minutes beeped out by the news that there was severe weather in the area.

So yeah.

Excuses, excuses.

But no promises, except one - I will not skip a single comic.

I will start again with Tuesday, January 29th.

Hopefully before January '09.

That is all, Psych is on soon, and Monk is on now and he's awesome.

Especially when compared to a Plugger.

Time to play catch up.

One post at a time - I hope to be caught up to the real date by next Tuesday - the day of my last exam. It's at 8, so I'm not going to try to be done before, I need my sleep.

Pluggers is more depressing, more bitter than TDIET and Mallard Fillmore.

I know, I know.

But TDIET has those awesome anachronisms and speech patterns, and Mallard's just f'd up. Both can be funny, not in their intended ways.

Pluggers? Just mean and depressing.

I must stop for now.

Blogger won't let me upload images right now, there's an error message.

Pity.

I'll probably pick this up again tomorrow or later tonight if I can't sleep/the game goes into extra innings.

I truly am sorry.

I just remember looking at Monday's comic and not having the energy to touch it.

Last weekend, I had a paper to write.

This weekend, I should be working on two papers, but nothing is due this week, so I can attack another writing assignment.

This blog.

You don't want to see the mess my regular blog is in.

I still love college - I got a 94 on my French midterm!

Saturday, August 4, 2007

Wow!

Somebody broke down the demographics of Pluggers and They'll Do It Every Time.

That took a lot of work and dedication, and he promises to continually update it.

Yeah, right.

I'm just grateful that I don't have to do it, not that I was going to do it, just note it along with the analysis of the comic to see how fucking odd it is.

It's pretty cool: check it out.
