Saturday February 26th

The comic:

I've been there. It's not fun, nor is it funny.

And you know why you don't donate it all and buy a new wardrobe? Because you can't afford it.

I think most people read this comic and don't think about it beyond "yeah, that's true" and then go on to Popeye or Rex Morgan. It's not designed for critical thought.

Though who wears their baseball cap indoors and while wearing their PJs? Honestly!

Tuesday June 15th

The comic:

Ha ha, his vehicle is worthless, but he depends on it because he lives in Pluggerville, which is rural and thus has no public transportation and very little sidewalks away from the shopping areas, so he needs his poor car to survive. He doesn't make enough to repair or restore his car, the only money he can put towards his car is just for cas.

This is hilarious.

And does he carry the boots between the cab and the truck bed? Because every time I see that, I assume a poor guy is being held there by his boots and being dragged around, head near the road.

That poor cop. The Plugger doesn't care, so why should he? But it's better than his other calls about teenagers playing their "heavy metal" Christian music too loud.

Also, most of the Pluggers episodes devoted to cars are about they're in terrible shape - so how can he find it? Oh yeah, license plate - if it's not covered in mud.

And like my mom says about our crappy things - if someone wants our stuff, they must be worse off than us.

So... how does someone who likes this comic take this? Ha ha, I identify, my car is POS too!

One last thing - when we lived in Italy about 20 years ago (OMG), my parents put a sign on the car saying the door was unlocked, take the radio, but please don't break the glass. I don't understand why glass for car windows was so hard to get in 1990 in mainland Europe, but go figure. Also, the pollution was terrible and the rats there could give NYC rats a run for their money. But the Adriatic Sea was gorgeous, and our off-base apartment had marble floors... perfect for a baby and a toddler!

Monday May 10th

The comic:

Ha ha, Pluggers wear their pants up high!

This is what you kick off "classics week" with? Reed Hoover is a hack, but Brookins is worse.

Monday September 29th

The comic:

At least he has a toaster, let's look on the bright side here.

The question is, does he have any bread?

Little note here - I love RhinoMan. If this starred the bear or dog (you know it wouldn't star the chicken - girls can't fix toasters!), I'd hate it.

RhinoMan just seems less smug, if that makes any sense. He always seems so sad, so earnest, you just have to like him.

Oh, god, about toast. I watched the Good Eats episode on it today, and damn, I want some toast. No toasters allowed in the rooms, though, and while pop-tarts do ok in the microwave, I don't think toast will.

Tuesday May 27th

The comic:

Pluggers have crappy cars. Despite being blue-collar, they do not take pride in their vehicles.

As for the weight thing... car people, fill me in.

Thursday, April 10th

The comic:

Reed Hoover strikes again.

But there's my RhinoMan.

And he looks like he has a perfectly boring 9-to-5, non-blue collar job with benefits and such.

But he cannot afford a long enough tie. :(

Maybe he's just working for one of those door-to-door sales things. That sucks. Poor guy.

Sunday the 24th

Hey, Pluggers! Guess what I'm listening to! Yeah. Bollywood. Not Dollywood, stupid!

The comic:

Oh, damn! I didn't mean to insult Pluggers on The R's day.

This poor guy bought this car less than a year ago, and it is now worthless. Well, it was a trade.

Poor, poor RhinoMan.

All Pluggers are poor, but RhinoMan is the poorest - so who gets Pluggerville charity? Humans? Their "pets'?

And er, moment of silence for "Michael Melnyk". Even in Pluggerville, you only remember someone when they die. And had a car so bad the Salvation Army didn't want it! (Wait, wasn't that in a Foxworthy book?) My standard "somebody died" song.

Tuesday the 29th

The comic:

I saw this one and thought about commenting on it on the 29th, but I couldn't. That's it - I haven't seen any since then. (I'm not adding Pluggers to my daily Houston Chron page!)

Josh already covered this, but I can't get his site to load right now. He was funnier than I ever could be, but hey! My blog is all Pluggers, all the time.

Or something.

Anyways, we've all seen the amazing Simpsons episode that inspired Chris Petersen (or Brookins, if Petersen didn't specify what he was pawning).

Hank Hill is crazy - "Savor the aroma of the beer"? Ew, ew, ew! Beer smells "like sick", Bobby, yes it does. (Oh, this statement amuses my mom to no end.)

Pluggers!

Depressing if the Plugger used to use a non-Plugger money market and has sunk to pawning off his childhood/his kid's saxophone.

Or as cockily Plugged as ever, watching the economy tank and laugh laugh because pawn shops won't be affected in a way that would bother him. He heard the term on the teevee and interpreted it as he saw fit.

I like the second one, I get to bash Pluggers and not feel sorry for them. That's good.

Friday the 11th

The comic:

Pluggers are so ... ugh.

They don't give a damn about anything, do they?

I'd say they're depressed, but they'd never admit it - admitting you have a problem is like saying you're the worst person ever.

Saturday the 5th

The comic:

How could this be considered funny?

Oh it's funny because Jim Longley plugged up a phrase. Ha ha.

This is true for too many retirees, and that's not right.

This is not a good thing!

I know the phrase could mean that he's working because he's bored, he wants spending money, whatever.

But it doesn't come across that way.

And I must stereotype for a second - Pluggers are conservative. (But not all conservatives are Pluggers.) So they probably support cutting social security benefits.

But they're blue collar. I thought blue collar workers had great unions, which usually equals a pension.

Today's comic makes me feel uncomfortable.

And it's an insult, of course, to those retirees who don't like working at a big box store to survive.

Friday the 28th

I had a doctor appointment that day - no poking, no prodding!

And then a new Las Vegas!

You can understand how I would ignore this "gem," of course.

So much hate.

He's a bear, she's not. Just maul her already.

I get the feeling that Andy hasn't had a job in a long time, and his mother-in-law's presence can't be helping.

Now I have to wonder, why was this sent in by a woman? Is she the wife? The mother-in-law? Who?

How was it initially written?
